PUNCH NEEDLE- FINISHED SAMPLERS

FWP originals and other designers whose work portrays that antique look of miniature rug hooking.

I am offering some punch needle samplers that I have done. I love the look of needle punch because they resemble hooked rugs but are worked in a smaller format.

Punch Needle is making a come back from hundreds of years ago. They say that the first punch embroidery was done using the small hollow bones of birds. Today there are many different kinds of needles you can use along with a whole range of threads. I work mostly with hand dyed cotton thread and wool thread.

The Pumpkin King

This Fall piece which I call the Pumpkin King is an original punch needle done in 100% wool threads. I have framed it using my hand dyed wool fabrics. Here is the Pumpkin King who reigns at the time of cool breezes and turning leaves - with his three kitty companions and his crow! I really enjoyed making this one. It was so nice to see it come together with much agonizing over the colours, but I think it has turned out well and is waiting for that special someone to make it part of their home.

Pumpkin King measures 14" x 17" and was punched using lambswool threads some of which were dyed using natural plant dyes but most of them dyed using my own Red Island Threads formulas. The pumpkins were done using 2 different wools - spiced pumpkin & autumn leaves - while the pumpkin king was punched with old blue paint and faded red. I used a wood moss for the leaves and tantramar marsh brown for the vines. The cats were done using a colour called Shadow Play with the background punched in 3 different colours, sheep's wool, slate and cinder.

I used my own hand dyed wool fabric to frame the piece and add a little folk art to it. The wool squares were cut out and appliqued on the borders then a smaller square appliqued on top of that. I used a primitive stitch to secure it all. The backing is a piece of faded black wool that was quilted together with the top. This piece will come signed and dated as an original Fully Wooly Primitives design.

This is truly a conversation piece and would look wonderful on a table or hanging on a wall amongst your primitives. The price for this item is $90.00 and includes postage to the USA (48 states) or Canada. All others please inquire. Thank you.
